Special School (Mental Retard Children)

Our Work  /  Special School

Special School for Children With Intellectual Disability

Children with intellectual and developmental disability are not unable to learn. They learn differently, at a different pace, and they need teachers trained to find the way in. Our Special School exists to do exactly that.

Every child admitted here is assessed individually and given an Individualised Education Plan built around their present ability, their communication level and the goals their family cares about most — whether that is speaking a full sentence, dressing without help, holding a pencil, or learning a skill that can one day earn a living.

Education, therapy, activity and mid-day support are provided free of cost. No family is turned away because of what they can afford.

Our Programmes

Education and Therapy Under One Roof

Individualised Education Plan

Each child is assessed on cognition, communication, motor skills and self-care, and given a written plan with specific goals that is reviewed and updated through the year.

Speech & Communication Therapy

Structured speech therapy, sound and word building, and picture- and gesture-based communication for children who are non-verbal or minimally verbal.

Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy

Exercises and activity-based therapy to improve gross and fine motor control, balance, posture, grip and coordination.

Behaviour & Life-Skill Training

Patient, structured training in self-care, toileting, eating, dressing, safety, social behaviour and daily routine — the skills that decide how independently a child can live.

Sports, Music, Art & Dance

Regular sport, music, dance and art-craft sessions that build confidence, expression and group participation — and which children look forward to all week.

Pre-Vocational Training

For older students: simple craft, packing, gardening and workshop tasks that build attention span, work habit and, for some, the beginning of a livelihood.

Special Initiative

The Free Annual Summer Camp

Every year we organise a completely free Summer Camp for Special Children — open to our own students and to Divyang children from across the district.

The camp is deliberately not academic. It is filled with art and craft, music, dance, sports, yoga and life-skill training. For many children it is the only structured social activity of their year; for many parents it is the only break they get. There is no fee of any kind.

Our Teachers

Taught by Teachers Trained for This Work

Special education fails when it is delivered by teachers trained only for mainstream classrooms. That is why the Sansthan also runs a D.Ed. Special Education (IDD) college — a recognised programme that trains teachers specifically to work with children who have intellectual and developmental disability.

The result is a school staffed by people who understand behaviour, communication and therapy, alongside our Girls B.Ed. and Girls D.El.Ed. colleges which are building a wider pool of trained women educators in Chittorgarh.

Admission & Assessment

Admission is open through the year and is free. The process is simple:
